Hello there! It’s a very common belief, but the idea that the Great Wall of China is easily visible from space is actually mostly a myth 148. For a long time, popular stories claimed it was the only man-made structure visible from the moon, but NASA and various astronauts have confirmed that this is simply not true 1313. Even from a much closer distance in Low Earth Orbit, the wall is incredibly difficult or impossible to see with the naked eye because its materials and colors blend in so naturally with the surrounding terrain 3910. While the wall is technically visible from low orbit under very specific weather and lighting conditions, it is not the obvious landmark people often imagine, and China’s own astronaut, Yang Liwei, even noted he could not see it during his mission 2413.
