WHAT WE FOUND

The speed of light in a vacuum is a fundamental physical constant officially defined as exactly 299,792,458 meters per second 126. This value corresponds to 299,792.458 kilometers per second 5. High-credibility sources confirm this constant was set by the Seventeenth General Congress on Weights and Measures in 1983 57. Because the exact value is 299,792.458 km/s, the claim that it is approximately 299,792 kilometers per second is factually correct 8. Other common approximations for this speed include 1.08 billion kilometers per hour or roughly 186,282 miles per second 39.
