“Three of the seated jurors in the Karmelo Anthony trial were racial minorities.”
TL;DR ·The jury included no Black members but did seat three Asian and Hispanic jurors.
While the 12-person jury in the Karmelo Anthony murder trial was the subject of intense controversy for having zero Black members, reporting confirms it was not an all-white panel. According to sources close to the trial and subsequent fact-checks, three of the seated jurors were racial minorities, specifically identified as being of Asian and Hispanic descent (Fox News Digital, Forbes). The defense raised a Batson challenge after the prosecution used peremptory strikes to remove every qualified Black prospective juror, but Judge John Roach Jr. overruled the objection, accepting the state's argument that the strikes were based on race-neutral factors such as employment as educators (CBS News, The Guardian). The trial concluded on June 9, 2026, with Anthony being convicted of murder and sentenced to 35 years in prison for the 2025 stabbing death of Austin Metcalf (Courthouse News, Dallas Observer).
