WHAT WE FOUND

Steve Jobs' adoptive mother, Clara Jobs, never graduated from college, and his adoptive father, Paul Jobs, never graduated from high school. This biographical detail was a central point of Jobs' 2005 Stanford University commencement address and is corroborated by his authorized biography written by Walter Isaacson. Jobs' biological mother, Joanne Schieble, had initially specified that her son must be adopted by college graduates and refused to sign the final adoption papers upon discovering that Paul and Clara Jobs did not meet this requirement. She only relented months later after the couple signed a formal pledge promising that Steve would attend college. Paul Jobs was a Coast Guard veteran and mechanic who had dropped out of high school to find work, while Clara Jobs worked as a bookkeeper and payroll clerk without pursuing a degree.
