“Karmelo Anthony was sentenced to 35 years in prison for stabbing and killing Austin Metcalf.”
TL;DR ·A Texas jury sentenced Karmelo Anthony to 35 years for the murder of Austin Metcalf.
Karmelo Anthony was sentenced to 35 years in prison on June 9, 2026, for the murder of Austin Metcalf (The Guardian, CBS News). A Collin County jury found the 19-year-old guilty of the fatal stabbing, which occurred on April 2, 2025, during a high school track meet in Frisco, Texas (Newsweek, WFAA). Prosecutors presented evidence that Anthony intentionally escalated a dispute over a team tent, while the defense argued he acted in self-defense after being confronted by Metcalf and his teammates (Forbes, Texas Public Radio). Jurors rejected claims that the stabbing was an act of sudden passion and delivered the sentence after less than three hours of deliberation (TMZ, KERA News). Anthony has since filed a notice of appeal regarding the conviction and sentencing (FOX 4, CBS News).
