WHAT WE FOUND

Senator Marsha Blackburn has introduced and reintroduced legislation, such as the End Child Trafficking Now Act, to mandate DNA testing for migrants at the southern border [1, 3, 8]. These efforts seek to reinstate a testing program that the Biden administration reportedly ended [7, 9]. Blackburn and her colleagues cite data from previous testing periods claiming that as many as 30% of children DNA tested were found not to be related to the adults posing as family members [1, 6, 10]. However, the provided sources only document the introduction and proposal of these bills [2, 5, 11]. There is no evidence in the record that the legislation has been enacted or that the DNA testing requirement has been officially reinstated as of the latest available reports [4, 9]. Readers should consult the official status of the End Child Trafficking Now Act on GovTrack.us 9 or the U.S. Senate website 3 to judge the current status of the legislation for themselves.
