FACT CHECK #VGWBDDPE

WHAT WE FOUND

Scientific data from high-credibility sources like NOAA and NASA confirms that lightning frequently strikes the same location repeatedly 1 3. Experts state that if lightning hits a specific spot once, the probability of it being struck again can be higher 4. This is especially true for structures that are tall, isolated, or pointed 2 12. While the phrase is a common idiom, it is scientifically false and potentially dangerous if used for safety decisions 5 8. Lightning can strike the same place multiple times during a single storm or over several years 7 10. National weather organizations and educational institutions categorize this claim as a persistent myth 9 11.
