“Reed College offered what Jobs considered the best calligraphy instruction in the country at the time.”
WHAT WE FOUND
Steve Jobs explicitly stated that Reed College offered perhaps the best calligraphy instruction in the country during his time there . This belief was motivated by the campus environment, where every poster and label on every drawer was beautifully hand calligraphed . While at Reed, Jobs took a calligraphy class to learn about serif and sans serif typefaces and varying letter spacing . He was taught by Robert Palladino, who succeeded the influential professor Lloyd Reynolds, a key figure in Reed’s graphic arts history . This exposure to typography is credited as the foundation for Apple's typographic legacy .
