“Doctors initially told Steve Jobs that his pancreatic tumor was likely incurable with a life expectancy of 3 to 6 months.”
In October 2003, a CT scan of Steve Jobs' kidneys incidentally revealed a tumor on his pancreas. According to Jobs' 2005 Stanford commencement address and Walter Isaacson's authorized biography, his physicians initially identified the mass as pancreatic adenocarcinoma, a highly aggressive and typically terminal form of cancer. Jobs stated that his doctors told him the condition was almost certainly incurable and that he should expect to live no longer than three to six months, famously advising him to go home and get his affairs in order. However, a biopsy performed later that same day revealed that the tumor was actually a rare form of pancreatic neuroendocrine cancer, which is much slower-growing and was at that time considered treatable with surgery.
