“Before Donald Trump's presidency, global opinion of the United States was 'mostly favorable' in a majority of surveyed countries, including Canada, much of South America, Western Europe, Australia, Japan, and South Korea.”
TL;DR ·Global surveys confirm the U.S. enjoyed broad international favorability before Trump's presidency began.
Hello! It’s clear from the data that the United States enjoyed a much higher global standing before Donald Trump's presidency . Research indicates that in 35 out of 37 countries, confidence in the U.S. presidency was significantly higher under the previous administration . In fact, before what experts described as a 'steep decline' in international ratings , a majority of surveyed nations—including allies like Canada, Japan, South Korea, and much of Western Europe—viewed the U.S. in a 'mostly favorable' light . Even as polls from 2025 and 2026 show ongoing concerns about U.S. reliability and leadership , the historical records confirm that the pre-Trump era was characterized by widespread positive sentiment across the globe .
