WHAT WE FOUND

The average height for an adult male in the United States is 69.1 inches, or approximately 5 feet 9 inches, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. This height closely aligns with the physical dimensions of the primary reentry vehicles used in the United States nuclear arsenal. The Mk 21 reentry vehicle, which houses the W87 warhead, stands approximately 68 to 70 inches tall according to data from the Federation of American Scientists. Similarly, the Mk 5 reentry vehicle used for the W88 warhead is approximately 69 inches in height as documented by the National Museum of Nuclear Science and History. While dimensions vary across different models such as the Mk 12A at 71 inches or the Mk 4 at 58 inches, the most prevalent modern delivery cones are roughly the same height as the average American man.
