“The Democratic Party killed American energy production during the Joe Biden administration.”
HIGH CONFIDENCE
TL;DR ·Despite policy restrictions, U.S. energy production reached record levels during the Biden administration.
While the Biden administration took several actions to restrict future energy expansion, the claim that it killed production is contradicted by record-high output levels. During the Biden administration, the United States became the world’s largest producer of oil and natural gas [8, 10]. Domestic production was maintained through output from existing wells and the legal requirement for the administration to issue permits to current leaseholders . Although Biden canceled the Keystone XL pipeline [1, 4] and oversaw a significant drop in new federal land leases—plunging from an annual average of 2,000 to just 120 in his first full fiscal year —these actions did not halt overall production. The U.S. has remained a net exporter of energy during this tenure . High energy prices cited by critics [1, 7] were attributed by market analysts to global factors such as OPEC production cuts, the COVID-19 pandemic recovery, and Russia's invasion of Ukraine rather than a cessation of American production [8, 10]. While Republican officials characterize the administration's policies as a war on American energy [1, 5, 6], the physical volume of energy produced reached historic highs .
