WHAT WE FOUND

Modern nuclear weapons are technically classified as thermonuclear weapons, also known as hydrogen bombs, which utilize a multi-stage detonation process. This design typically employs the Teller-Ulam configuration, where a primary fission explosion generates the thermal radiation and pressure required to ignite a secondary fusion reaction [1.1.4, 1.3.8]. Official documentation from the National Nuclear Security Administration and scientific analysis from the Union of Concerned Scientists confirm that almost all strategic weapons in current arsenals utilize this two-stage process [1.2.4, 1.4.7]. While earlier nuclear devices relied solely on atomic fission, the integration of fusion stages allows modern warheads to achieve significantly higher explosive yields with lower mass and volume [1.3.6, 1.3.8]. For detailed technical specifications, researchers can consult official publications from the Department of Energy or academic entries in Britannica [1.1.5, 1.4.9].
