Wozniak explained that they did no designs, prototyping, or manufacturing in the garage; instead, it mostly served as a place for them to feel at home and hang out . Furthermore, while Jobs often stated he was 20 at the time , he was actually 21 years old when Apple was officially co-founded in 1976 . Though the garage remains a powerful symbol of the company's humble beginnings, it wasn't the functional birthplace of their technology .
