“Wealthy donors to the Kennedy Center were strongly opposed to a name change that added President Trump's name to the building alongside President Kennedy's.”
TL;DR ·Donor reactions were divided, as some withdrew support while others donated millions specifically because of the name.
The claim that wealthy donors were strongly opposed is MISLEADING because donor sentiment was sharply divided. While some organizations, such as the Washington National Opera, cited shattered donor confidence when leaving the center , legal filings from the Justice Department and the Trump administration stated the name change was actually crucial to raising funds . According to court documents, the center received millions of dollars from donors who specifically gave money because of the addition of Trump's name . The administration argued in court that removing the name would seriously threaten fundraising . While there was notable opposition from the Kennedy family and some artistic figures , the record shows a significant segment of wealthy donors supported the renaming with substantial financial contributions .
