TRUE

WHAT WE FOUND

Steve Jobs' biological mother, Joanne Schieble, was an unwed graduate student at the University of Wisconsin who traveled to San Francisco to give birth in 1955. She established a strict requirement that her child be adopted by college graduates. When she discovered the couple who actually took him, Paul and Clara Jobs, were not college graduates, Schieble initially refused to sign the final adoption papers. She only consented several months later after the couple signed a legal agreement pledging to fund Jobs' future college education. This account is documented in Walter Isaacson's authorized biography and was famously recounted by Jobs himself during his 2005 Stanford University commencement address.
