Current scientific research fails to prove a causal link between Tylenol and autism.
“Taking Tylenol during pregnancy causes autism”
Scientific research has not established a causal relationship between acetaminophen (Tylenol) use during pregnancy and autism . A nationwide Danish study published in April 2026 found that Tylenol use was not associated with autism in children . Similarly, a 2025 report from Johns Hopkins University suggested that Tylenol does not cause autism . While older research from 2019 identified a three-fold increase in risk and some 2024 reviews noted a possible correlation , medical experts emphasize that association is not causation . In late 2025, the FDA initiated a process for a label change to reflect a possible association, but the agency and other fact-checkers noted the lack of definitive proof . Major medical groups continue to recommend Tylenol as a safe option for pain and fever management because leaving those conditions untreated poses independent health risks .
